VIBRISM
Painting as a living presence.
Vibrism is the name I give to the way colour, matter, gesture and rhythm act together upon perception.
Every composition builds its own intensity.
Forms expand, draw towards one another, enter into tension and find an equilibrium.

Since 1999, my painting has explored colour, gesture and light as elements of a single language.
Over time, the core of the research has emerged with increasing clarity.
The artwork generates a presence.
That presence encounters a person.
The encounter changes the way we perceive space.
Vibrism gives a name to this trajectory and makes its architecture visible.
Painting means listening to what is taking form.
Intensity, rhythm, thresholds and tensions move across the painted surface.
Matter and colour build a presence capable of entering into a relationship with the viewer and with the space that holds it.
What appears on the canvas continues within the experience.

01 · FREQUENCY
Colour, matter and visual structure generate intensity, temperature, density and direction.
The artwork reveals its own perceptual character.
02 · PULSE
Fullness and emptiness, acceleration and pause, density and opening build the internal rhythm of the composition.
The surface begins to breathe.
03 · RESONANCE
The artwork encounters the individual.
Sensitivity, memory, emotion, imagination and identity take part in the experience.
The response becomes personal.
04 · FIELD
Artwork, individual and space enter into relationship.
The presence of the painting guides the eye, establishes hierarchies and alters the perceptual rhythm of the environment.
Frequency → Pulse → Resonance → Field

WITHIN THE ARTWORK
Matter, gesture, rhythm, density, emptiness, light, colour and layering build the presence.
Each work manifests its own intensity.
WITHIN THE INDIVIDUAL
The work encounters sensitivity, memory, emotion, imagination and identity.
Resonance gives shape to a personal experience.
WITHIN THE SPACE
The artwork introduces centrality, rhythm, tension, openness and dynamism.
The space makes that presence part of the lived environment.
The artwork generates presence.
The individual enters into resonance.
The space amplifies the field.

Contemporary research examines some of the processes involved in the experience of art.
Neuroaesthetics, embodied cognition and studies of self-relevance approach the relationship between perception, body, attention, memory and personal meaning from different perspectives.
Vibrism meets this territory through the practice of painting.
Scientific research observes the processes.
Painting moves through them as experience.

The presence of the artwork continues beyond the first glance.
Matter, colour and rhythm change with distance, light, space and the duration of observation.
Each new encounter can reveal a different relationship.
When resonance becomes recognisable.
The artwork meets the personal history of the viewer.
A force emerges.
Recognition gives it a name.
This is where Archetypes begins.
